Finding good internet courses online is one of the best ways to learn how to make money online and to start your own online business.
But actually finding good quality courses can be tricky.
One of the problems is that courses are often not as good as they appear – and beginners don’t tend to have enough knowledge of the industry to know when they are being taught something accurate and when they are not.
The other issue is that internet marketing products tend to differ from one another so much, so it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges.
There might be many differences between internet marketing courses, but there are also some similarities, and these can help you work out what course is best for you.
Is it Up-to-date?
Internet marketing is strongly dependent on the whims of search engine algorithms, and these change over time.
This means that some things change while others remain the same over time.
A lot of training courses I have run across don’t update over time.
Many of them are projects from the author, who has since moved onto other products and profit lines.
In these cases, the training in the course might be three or four years old, and much of it will be out of date.
In fact, many sites will choose not to tell you how old the training is, so you don’t make your choice based on that information.
Personally, I look at the date of old reviews to gauge just how old the training is, and I also look for any indications of whether the training is updated over time.
This last part is particularly important, because some internet marketing courses online are updated regularly, meaning that they grow in content over time and have a lot of relevant and up-to-date content.
A good example of this is Wealthy Affiliate University, which is actually a training site that I have used extensively and recommend.
The training site itself is around five years old, but content for the site is constantly being developed.
In sites like this, you can normally go by the date of the training for an indication of whether it is still relevant, which brings me to my next point.
Community and Support
Some internet marketing courses offer community and support, although many don’t.
Whether this matters to you depends a bit on your personality and previous experience.
Personally, I think you should always choose a training site with community and support whenever possible, because this means you can ask questions and make sure you are on the right track.
Communities of people are also encouraging, because you know that other people are going through the same challenges that you are – and odds are some are doing worse than you.
Many sites give you the option of being as engaged, or disengaged, in the community as you would like.
I often find that I hang back in community-based sites, choosing not to engage in other members of the community.
However, even then the community can be useful, and I will use the community as a way to get answers to specific questions, or to check whether a piece of training is up-to-date.
A final thing to consider about training is whether it is realistic.
There is a lot of hype in the internet marketing industry already and most products promote or promise outcomes that range from unrealistic to absurd.
Personally, I don’t trust any product or service that sounds too good to be true or makes claims that simply don’t make sense.
To me, this is bad marketing, and it is not a good way to gain the trust of your viewers.
Also, if they really believe that hype and unrealistic goals are a good way to sell a product and to train people, then I really don’t want to learn any of the lessons they are teaching.
The training course that I personally recommend in Wealthy Affiliate.
In many ways, this is more of a training program than a course. I say that because Wealthy Affiliate has such a large amount of training, including individual courses that focus on different areas of internet marketing.
Wealthy Affiliate also doesn't hype up what it offers and makes it very clear that members need to work hard to create a profitable website.
The service also has a strong focus on long-term success and the training that it offers is geared towards this idea.
