Scam or Not: Not a Scam

What is ProTypers?
Protypers is a fairly simple site that offers data entry work in exchange for income. If you listen to their marketing, you’ll get the idea that it’s easy money for fairly basic work.
So, in this ProTypers review, we’re going to take a look at that claim and see whether ProTypers is actually as good as it seems.
At the most basic level, ProTypers is a data entry company.
Data entry tends to sound appealing because it is easy work and you don’t need to be particularly skilled. Realistically, you don’t even need to type particularly fast.
Now, there are some interesting types of data entry out there but ProTypers certainly isn’t a good example. With ProTypers, you’re typing in CAPTCHAs. Over and over again.
Let me tell you one thing. Data entry like this gets boring. Fast.
More than that – it’s incredibly monotonous work.
Now, in fairness, the work is fairly easy. But, I don’t know many people who would actually have the patience to do this hour after hour. I suppose you might if it paid well.
But, that’s the other thing…
According to the homepage, the best performing members earn between $100 and $250 TyperCredits each month.
There is a 1:1 ratio of TyperCredits to actual dollars, so you’re looking at somewhere between $100 and $250 a month. That’s not enough to live off but it is a nice chunk of pocket money.
But, the actual amount you earn is only part of the story.
The real issue that we’re looking at for this ProTypers review is how much work you have to do to get that money.
For one thing, the payment rates are as follows:
So, members get between $0.45 and $1.50 per 1,000 words. That’s an absolutely horrible rate.
Let me put that figure in context.
Somebody who types relatively fast might type somewhere between 1,000 to 2,000 words per hour – depending on what they were typing, assuming there were no interruptions.
Now, filling out CAPTCHAs tends to be a lot slower. After all, you’re just typing a couple of words at a time and hitting submit. Even if you’re fast at figuring CAPTCHAs out – the extra clicking takes time.
Likewise, you have to deal with some CAPTCHAs that aren’t readable, so that takes time away from typing too.
Realistically, you’re probably looking at a lot less than 1,000 words per hour. But, even if you were extremely fast, you certainly wouldn’t be making more than a few dollars per hour.
Other Quirks of the System
In doing this ProTypers review, I did notice a few odd things about the system. The first is that it is geared towards getting people to do the CAPTCHAs as fast as humanly possible.
In particular, there’s actually a timer above the CAPTCHAs and you only have a certain amount of time to solve each one.
If you miss too often, you get kicked out of what you’re doing. Get kicked out too often and you get banned.
The system does encourage fast work and, to a degree, makes it feel like a game.
I can imagine how that would make time pass faster. However, it’s also a rather stressful way of doing a pretty simple task.
Per image, you do get a fairly short amount of time. This means that you have to be fast with your typing and with hitting the button. That won’t work for everybody.
As I mentioned earlier in this ProTypers review, the basic pay rate ends up being abysmally low. However, the site does offer some ways to increase that. One way is Smart-CAPTCHAs.
How much extra you will earn seems to be based on your hourly rate but the company isn’t clear on precisely what the extra is. In my case, I just got this statement:
My guess is that this is because I don’t have an average hourly rate (as I’m not prepared to type in CAPTCHAs for an hour). Regardless, the bonus is likely to be relatively low.
There is also a lottery where you can buy entries using your points.
Honestly though, I don’t count lotteries as a way to make money, as you’re basically just gambling.
Benefits and Advantages
Even though there are a lot of issues with ProTypers, there are also some benefits.
First, the work is fairly basic. As long as you can type relatively fast, you can probably do it. Additionally, there doesn’t seem to be a limit in the amount of work. So, it’s not like a survey site where you have to wait for days to get new work.
That’s appealing if you’re in a situation where you have a lot of free time and are simply looking for a source of income.
The other area that I like is in terms of payment. There are a number of different methods of payment available, including PayPal, Bitcoin and even Western Union.
The company pays out every week (on a Monday) and you get paid as long as your balance reaches the minimum amount.
That minimum is just $3.00 for PayPal or $1.50 for Bitcoin (although, it’s $100 for Western Union).
As long as you’re not going through Western Union, that’s a fairly low goal to meet. So, most people could probably cash out at least some money each week. That’s encouraging.
Issues with ProTypers
The monotony of this type of work means that you would get sick of it extremely quickly. I can’t even imagine doing this for hours on end, although I suppose some people do.
That isn’t the worst thing though.
The worst part is the time versus money. Even if you were exceptionally good and fast at doing the CAPTCHAs, you would probably only be earning a few dollars an hour. That’s not much money, especially when the work is so boring.
Is ProTypers a Scam?
Based on the system alone, I wouldn’t call ProTypers a scam. It’s a horrible way to earn money, no doubt about that and you don’t earn much either. But, the company is pretty clear about the rates before you even sign up.
Even the claim ‘easy money, easy cash’ is technically true. After all, the work itself is easy enough.
Now, I have read some ProTypers reviews claim differently. For example, one site said this:
I’m sure the account balance did go down – but the company does make it clear that the initial balance is an estimate.
Basically, the company credits you based on the words you type, then adjusts based on any you got wrong. It takes time to check whether you got words wrong, so the balance is likely to change.
It’s not an admirable practice and there are better ways to do it. But, that issue alone doesn’t make it a scam, especially as ProTypers does actually talk about it on their site.
Other ProTypers reviews do note that members are getting paid, which is the biggest indication that the company is legit.
So, all-in-all, it’s not a scam. But, that still doesn’t make ProTypers a good idea.
Can You Make Money with ProTypers?
Theoretically yes, you can make money with the company. It’s just that you won’t be making a lot and you’ll be boring yourself to death in the process.
To be honest, it’s almost like slave labor because you are earning pathetically little for the time that you are spending.
Even if you are desperate for income, there are better options out there than this.
My Personal ProTypers Review
Sites like ProTypers are actually fairly common and they’re nothing but a waste of time. Even if you do earn money from them, it’s going to be hardly anything, while the workload is high.
A much better way to make money online is to create your own business.
I know, I know. That sounds like a lot of hard work, which tends to turn people away. And, to a degree, that’s true. Building your own business isn’t a way to get rich quick. But, it is a way to create a long-term sustainable income.
In fact, for some people, an online business has started off as a side project and has turned into a way to make a full-time income.
The best place to get started with this type of business is a site called Wealthy Affiliate. Through Wealthy Affiliate you can get all the information you need along with a large amount of support.
