Being successful in online business involves actually getting people to visit your site.
It sounds simple enough, but it can really be challenging, particularly if you are new to this business.
Honestly, I think half of the problem is that there are simply too many options, and people can’t work out where to start.

These aren’t the only ways to find traffic for your site – far from it – but they are relatively easy to use and will work for most sites.
Is Content Really King?
Getting traffic for websites used to be all about manipulating search engines.
People would design their sites to rank well, regardless of the actual quality of their site or what they had to offer.
That doesn’t work so well nowadays – leading to a much greater focus on content.
It really does.
I don’t think that content is the only important thing for a website, but it probably the most important and if you want traffic, you really do have to look at your content.
Content is what makes a website valuable for visitors and it is what keeps them interested in your site.
The quality of your content will influence whether people stay on your website and whether they buy anything you are selling.
There are two main things to consider with content, quality and quantity.
Finding the right balance between these two can be difficult, because if you are trying to produce a certain number of articles every day or every week, your quality is probably going to decrease.
Ideally, you want to have high quality and quantity of articles, but this isn’t always achievable.
For people beginning internet marketing, I always suggest you focus on quality. Quantity can come later.
The quality of your content affects the reputation of your entire site, and you as a site owner.
One year after you start a site how regularly you created content won’t be nearly as obvious as the quality of your content.
It’s also worth noting that you tend to write slower when you first start internet marketing.
However, as you get more experienced your writing will tend to pick up, and you find that you can achieve both quality and quantity.
As a general rule, the more regularly you post quality content, the more traffic your site will get.
There isn’t really a highest number here. Some sites post one article every week, some do one every day, and others do two or three each day.
Ultimately, it depends on you and on your site. As long as the content you are producing is high quality, it should help with traffic.
Personally, I find that my preferred rate is around one post a day. That’s a level that is not too challenging to maintain and is good for getting traffic.
Conversations, Not Lessons
Websites are casual.
No one goes to a website because they want to read a textbook or listen to a lecture.
Getting traffic, and getting people to actually engage you on your site means you have to be interesting and you have to relate to your audience.
I’ve read sites where it felt like I was reading a newspaper, and honestly, it’s not fun. People don’t tend to feel loyal to websites like that, and they will quickly visit somewhere else.
If you a personal on a website, and write your posts like conversations, then they get a lot more interesting.
After all, your brand is directly connected to you. If your audience feels like they can relate to you, then it will increase their interest in the site.
Don’t Ignore SEO
Content is critical to website success, but working out how to increase web traffic to your site is always going to require the use of SEO.
Even with the way that search engine algorithms have improved, SEO is still an important approach to ranking a site and getting traffic.
There are so many different keyword research tools out there now, and these can make the process of SEO much easier.
More than anything, SEO now is about promoting your content, rather than manipulating search engines.
Google is starting to really strongly focus on the content that people offer on their site, and SEO can help to highlight this content.
One approach that is often ignored is to look for trends and new events that are likely to have high search values.
Trending topics can be useful, because there are often a large number of people interested in them, but relatively few sites take advantage of the trends.
This happens because you have to write on the trend or news while it is still relevant.
Often this is a very small window of time, which can make it difficult.
However, if you can get used to looking at news stories and Google Trends for possible leads in your niche, then you may be able to take advantage of trends in interest.
Getting traffic doesn’t have to be difficult, and the biggest mistake that anyone can make is to write their content and assume the rest will take care of itself.
You really do have to get out there, find keywords that work for you and work out what people are interested in.
If your website actually interests your target audience, then you are going to get much more traffic than you would if it did not.
