Product Type: Survey Site
Scam or Not: So-so
Overall Rating: 3/10
The name for Product Report Card doesn’t give much away but essentially the site is just one example of websites that allow you to earn money by filling out surveys. This approach might sound good at face value, but is Product Report Card legit?
With Product Report Card, you are (potentially) earning money by filling in surveys, which is a fairly common practice.
To start off with, the sign-up process for the website is a bit of a pain. You have to go through multiple different screens which as for various personal information. Some of this is simple, such as your name and your birthdate. However, some of the information that they want it a bit more concerning, like this:
Personally, I find the idea of providing your physical address unnerving – especially as there is no real reason why the company even needs it.
Now, you could provide a fake address here, in theory. However, most sites like this use checking software, so you would have to pick an address that actually exists. Additionally, using a fake address could possibly influence your ability to get money from the company.
The company also requires you to provide a cell phone (or home phone) number and they have to verify this to get an account.
Honestly, that’s ridiculous.
I know that the company is trying to protect themselves and reduce the amount of people that try to take advantage of them. But, I would advise that you never provide your phone number to any online company unless you completely trust them. At the very least, providing your phone number opens you up to all sorts of spam phone calls.
Now, the company does provide some information about what you consent to by providing your phone number (and what you don’t consent to).
But, I find the wording here pretty interesting.
All the company is saying is that you won’t receive autodialed or prerecorded messages. It doesn’t offer any guarantees to protect you from manual calls.
In addition to wanting personal information, the amount of steps in the sign-up process means that it takes a bit of time. That can be a bit of a pain, especially if you just want to check the site out.
Now, if you do get all the way through the sign-up process, you end up at a site that simply offers surveys. In this sense, Product Report Card isn’t any different than the countless other survey companies out there.
As with other survey companies, you will find that you will only be eligible for some surveys and will get screened out of others.
Benefits and Advantages
I did notice that the customer support for this company appeared to be better than most. For example, the company did actually take the time to reply to some members who were upset and tried to resolve at least some of the payout issues that members experienced.
Of course, it would have been better if those issues hadn’t been present, but it is encouraging that the company is willing to communicate with members to some degree.
Another good thing about the site is that it is fairly easy to navigate. So, this is a site that you could get going with even if you have never joined a survey site in the past.
The final thing is customer reviews. I’ll go into these more in the next section, but there do seem to be a decent number of people who are pleased with the site, like this reviewer here:
However, I do want to point out one interesting thing about this review.
The writer was pretty pleased that she had made $73 and that sounds good – except for the fact that the review was written around 10 months after she joined. So, the reviewer made $73 in 10 months? That’s not an especially great payout for that length of time.
Issues with Product Report Card
One major issue with any survey site is privacy.
You provide personal information during the sign-up process and additional information as part of the surveys you take. In theory, that information should be completely safe but you really have no way of knowing that. After all, there is relatively control over what companies actually do with the information they collect – and you wouldn’t even know if they did misuse it.
To make matters worse, you are giving the company information on your address and your phone number. That’s pretty important information and the impacts of the company misusing those details could be pretty significant.
At the same time, Product Report Card suffers from the same issues that most other survey sites have. In particular, the amount of surveys available is not enough to allow people to earn significant income and the amount you earn for the time you put in is pretty low.
Member experience with the company varies considerably. For example, the information below is the ratings for Product Review Card from the site Trust Pilot.
On average, these outcomes show that while many people are happy with the site, there is also a decent number of people who aren’t.
One common complaint was that it took the company a long time to actually pay members – and reviews like this one were fairly common:
Now, there were multiple comments from the company under various complaints, so it does look like the company is actively trying to resolve at least some of the issues. Nevertheless, this type of payment issue is concerning, especially as most people are trying to earn money through the site.
It is also worth noting that the Trust Pilot site posts reviews based on how recent they are, with the newest ones being shown first. When I scanned through them, I noticed that there were relatively few positive reviews that were recent.
To me, this suggests that the company may have been fairly decent at one point but has gone downhill since then.
Is Product Report Card Legit?
As I mentioned before, Product Report Card is a survey-based company. This particular type of site is pretty common online and you could find dozens of similar programs without much effort at all. In fact, I even reviewed one such site recently, which was called Survey Say.
This type of site is actually pretty popular.
That popularity isn’t actually so surprising. After all, you don’t need any experience to try and make money from a survey site and you don’t need any specific skills either. Instead, all you need is time and a lot of patience.
With this in mind, is Product Report Card legit?
Well, yes and no.
After all, you can earn money from the company in theory. But, in practice, the amount you earn would be pretty small while the amount of work is high.
A key issue with survey sites, including Product Report Card, is that you simply don’t get a lot of surveys. Often this can mean that you end up waiting hours, days or even weeks between surveys. Furthermore, you’re likely to get screened out of at least some of the surveys you try to access.
This means that you couldn’t realistically earn much money from Product Report card alone – unless you were extremely patient. Some people get around this issue by signing up to multiple survey sites. In fact, some survey sites even recommend this approach.
Doing that might sound like a good idea but it doesn’t actually work that well.
After all, each survey site is going to have a minimum amount that you need to earn before you can cash out. It would still take quite a while to get to the point where you could cash out on any site. At the same time, you still end up spending a lot of time and earning relatively little income in the process.
There’s nothing wrong with having to put work in to earn money. In fact, that’s what you can expect from any approach to earn money. But, you should be following a strategy that lets you earn a decent amount of money for the time you put in – and survey sites simply don’t meet that criteria.
Instead, a much more realistic approach is a process called affiliate marketing. Now, you might have heard of this one before or you might not have. But, either way, it’s an approach that can work very well.
Affiliate marketing takes advantage of the large amount of people that shop online every day. It’s also an approach that even beginners can do. If you’re interested in this process, the training site Wealthy Affiliate is an amazing place to start. The site is completely free to join and can show you everything you need to know to be successful.
